Stift Klosterneuburg, Zierfandler Rotgipfler is a blend of two indigenous Austrian white grape varieties.  After picking and upon arrival in the winery this wine spends six hours on its skins picking up its bright yellow colour.  In the glass this wine is rather excitingly tropical on the nose.  The palate is powerful and showcases the tropical alongside citrus fruit and could be described as mango underlaid with lime.  Perfectly structured and balanced and extremely quaffable.  Stift Klosterneuburg, Zierfandler Rotgipfler has fine ageing potential and will still be lovely in 10 years+.

The Rotgipfler and Zierfandler grapes for this wine come from the Gumpoldskirchen Vineyards in the heart of the famous white wine producing region of the Thermenregion which lies to the south of Vienna.  The two varieties have been grown on the Klosterneuburg Monastery Wine Estate for decades, indeed the vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen are home exclusively to these unique varieties, which do particularly well in the limestone rich brown soil.

The just off-dry nature of Stift Klosterneuburg, Zierfandler Rotgipfler lends itself to deep-fried foods such as fish and chips and is also excellent, due to the residual sugar, with spicy Asian cuisine.
