In December 2018 we opened a small cheese counter in partnership with The Cheesery.
We've got all your favourites from Brie de Meaux, Colston Bassett Stilton, and Isle of Mull Cheddar, alongside a selection of preserves, chutneys, and crackers. Our cheese selection is a moving feast - so come along and see what's new!
The tipple of the moment - gin! We regularly host gin tasting evenings where we shoot the bar and try up to 8 premium gins. Some of our more popular gins # are the (very close to home!) Dundee Gin Company, creators of the Dundee Marmalade gin liqueurs and Verdant Gin, which won Scottish gin of the year a month after it's release in 2017. Verdant have tried to build on that old spirit of the city’s industrial and entrepreneurial past and are proud to fill the gap in founding Verdant Spirits and producing the first and only gin that is distilled here in Dundee.
Lind & Lime always goes down a treat at tastings as well. Lind & Lime Gin is the very first spirit produced by The Port of Leith Distillery Co at our Tower Street Stillhouse. It’s still a couple of years before they’ll be distilling whisky, but they've thrown our full and unbridled energy into creating a gin forged entirely from the talent, heritage and industry of Edinburgh and its historic distilling district of Leith.
We are also a collection point for Harris Gin - simply order on their website and collect your bottle from us using post code DD1 5JH!
We're very proud of our whisky collection. We've got dozens of whiskies
ranging in price and style - there truly is something for everyone here. One of our favourites is the local Glencadam range starting at just £25 right through to their 19 year old Oloroso cask at £107. The distillery was owned by a David Scott and his descendants from 1827- 1891, and during this period it was rented to various distillers. Glencadam was mothballed during both world wars. The warehouses were instead used to barrack soldiers. It reopened after a short closure in 2003, and has since been making award-winning whiskies in a multiple of expressions.
We have also managed to get our hands on a 25 year old cask strength Macallan whisky bottled by Douglas Laing, and, retailing at £1100 it is the most expensive item we've ever had in our store!! This is very limited edition (only 280 bottles were made!) but we've managed to score 3 bottles for all you hard core whisky lovers out there. Autumnal fruits with spice, fudge, gentle pepper and a long finish - this is one for any whisky buff's collection!
We have a collection of intense smoky Islay malts as well. One of our favourite smokier whiskies is actually from the Highlands. Spey distillery is widely acknowledged as being the prettiest of all Scotland’s distilleries. Originally a barley mill and croft dating back to the 1700’s, it finally closed in 1965, before opening again on Christmas Day in 1990. They have Tawny Port, Bourbon and Peated expressions, and we really can't choose a favourite!
We love our beers too, and support a variety of local and further afield styles. From the popular 71 Brewing cans and bottles to our friends over at Abernyte Brewing, we have over 150 different beers to choose from! Gift packs available all year round, or choose your own gift pack with our 3 bottle bags (for £1.50) or 6 bottles boxes (for £2.00.) We also sell by the case for parties and events! Come on down and see what more we have!
