Kumeu Village Pinot Gris is made by Michael Brajkovich MW at the Kumeu River family run Estate. Like much of New Zealand's vineyards the Pinot Gris grapes for this wine are grown in a Sustainable way. They are hand-harvested and sorted in the Kumeu Vineyards before being whole-bunch pressed gently so as not to extract unwanted flavours and aromas. Once pressed the juice is fermented using on its wild yeast prior to extended maturation on the lees.
The aromas of Kumeu Village Pinot Gris are typically full of stone fruit notes, especially peach. These stone fruits are ably supported by the floral perfume that we would expect from Pinot Gris. The wine is lively, with good fresh acidity and just a hint of residual sugars that don't quite push it to off dry. There is a complexity and the finish lingers on the palate.
Pinot Gris generally makes wines that go particularly well with food. For this example we recommend trying it with seafood dishes and white meat. The slight edge of residual sugar means it can handle the spiciness of Asian food, or even a chilli. Perfect with a chicken curry.
