"From granite vineyards in Frankland River, this red blend features Shiraz, Grenache and Counoise, more commonly found in the Rhône. It clearly thrives in its Australian home, producing this juicy, fleshy and very drinkable wine. Bright brambly red fruit aromas lead to a palate that's layered with vibrant cherry fruit, spice and a touch of smoky leather, plus fine tannins. A neat Aussie twist on Châteauneuf-du-Pape."

"Sweet and distinctive and full of fruit, even if not the most sophisticated wine."

About the Producer

Former ‘Winery of the Year’ by James Halliday and Matt Skinner, Larry Cherubino wants his wines to be distinctive and to speak clearly of their variety and vineyard site. He believes in paying meticulous attention to the vineyard, canopy and water management, picking at the right time and minimal intervention in the winery. Larry also makes wine under the Laissez Faire label, an exquisite range of natural wines which are the ultimate expression of site, made in small batches from hand harvested grapes. From delicate whites to opulent reds, all his wines have pure class and finesse.

Vineyard and Winery

The vineyard is located in the Frankland River area of the Great Southern, which is considered to be one of the most distinctive viticulture areas in Australia. The flavour of wines grown here comes from a granite based soil. These gravelly soils also line the river valleys, rolling hills and lowlands. The vineyards are situated with a northern orientation, optimising the long sunlight hours, which promotes ripening and maturation of the grapes. The vines were planted in 1997, with 1,650 vines per hectare.

The fruit was hand-picked and sorted, followed by fermentation in small lot fermenters. A moderate extraction was aimed for, thus ensuring vineyard characters were fully expressed. The wine was then aged in new and one year old oak, for six to eight months.
