Spey Tenne Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky begins the aging process in Bourbon Casks. This particular bottling is a limited release and is one of 1500 bottles. It was finished with 6 months in Tawny Port casks from a family run winery, Quinto de Filoco. As it should be this Single Malt is un-chillfiltered and has not been subjected to the unnecessary addition of colouring.
Tasting Note
Spey Tenne Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky has an enticing deep claret appearance, indeed it borders on opaque. The aroma is that of concentrated fruitiness along with jam and red wine most definitely a sign of the casking. Despite being bottled at cask strength, there is a light texture clear and balanced sweet and fruity flavours which integrate well with the higher alcohol by volume.
The addition of water in small quantity has the benefit of opening up some of the more delicate flavours and aromas, adding complexity and enhancing the experience.
