Masi Costasera Amarone is a full-bodied, smooth and complex Italian red wine that has gained a reputation for its unique and intense flavour profile. This wine is made from a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes that are carefully selected, hand-harvested and left to dry for months on trays in a special cellar to increase the sugar concentration and flavor intensity. Once the grapes are pressed, the wine is aged in oak barrels for up to three years to achieve its characteristic depth, richness, and balanced tannins. The result is a bold, luscious wine with flavors of dark fruit, chocolate, and hints of spice, perfect for pairing with hearty dishes such as roasted meats and powerful cheeses.
About the Producer
The story of Masi begins in 1772, the date of the Boscaini family's first harvest in the prized vineyards of ‘Vajo dei Masi’, a valley in the heart of Valpolicella Classica.
‘It is the story of the inseparable union of a surname, ‘Boscaini’, and a place name, ‘Vaio dei Masi’, whose vineyard property has been developed by the work of those family members who have dedicated themselves to cultivating the vines, transforming grapes into wine, and bringing it to market. At the same time it's the story of how this original vineyard was acquired and integrated into successively larger estates, and how its name has accompanied the human and entrepreneurial path of my family, right up to the current Masi Agricola S. p.A,’ explains Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi Agricola.
Though run by the Boscaini family for six generations, it is really in the last fifty years that Masi has established itself as one of the Veneto’s most innovative wine producers. In the late 1950s, they identified certain historic vineyard plots which are vinified as Amarone and bottled separately to this day.
Vineyard and Winery
Masi has always selected vineyards based on their historic suitability for viticulture, sited in foothill and hillside areas, paying particular attention to the development of single vineyards (crus) whose wines bear the vineyard name and express the excellence of the site. Viticulturally, the company's production is based on a mixture of estate-owned vineyards, leasehold land and vineyards belonging to contractors, typically small and medium-sized businesses that historically grow grapes for Masi following the protocols of the Technical Group.
Rooted in Valpolicella, Masi has identified lands in other regions with environmental and pedoclimatic characteristics suitable for producing wines using indigenous grapes and vinification methods that permit the company to make very innovative wines.
From the Veneto hills to Trentino-Alto Adige, from the Valdobbiadene denomination in the Treviso area to the Grave in Friuli, and from vineyards recently acquired in the Oltrepò Pavese region to Tuscan estates in the sunny Val d'Orcia, Masi has found fertile ground in many regions of Italy, expressing the excellence of its terroirs and vintages in the production of quality wines.
