Spirits
Spirits are a massive part of our culture and history in Scotland with Whisky one of our most important exports. In recent years there have been quite a few New Distilleries opening their doors and quite a few mothballed ones re-opening, many of them will now make Gin and Vodka and there are a good few making Rum. It is an exciting time and there is a lot of quality to be had.
Whisky
We have a selection of Whisky and Whiskey from a range of countries including Scotland, Ireland, Canada, USA, and Japan. Our range from Scotland covers Highland, Speyside, Islay, Lowland and Blended with some very interesting bottlings from Berry Bros. & Rudd, Uncharted Whisky Co., Mossburn and Douglas Laing.
Gin
With the huge boom in Gin distilling in the past decade or more we have developed what we think is a very fine wall of the Juniper led Spirit. The majority is Scottish with quite a few local options alongside a few from the rest of the World.
Vodka
Most Vodkas are aromatically simple in your glass yet some are capable of beautiful subtle flavour nuances which can delight and lazily be described as characterful. Vodka is mostly a neutral spirit but with the 'characterful' ones, if you are well-practised you can identify the raw material. We have an ever changing range of Oat, Barley, Corn, Wheat, Rye, and Potato based vodka and often stock one where Milk is the base material!
Brandy
Grape Brandy is a spirit made throughout the world and while we do often have Italian and Spanish Brandy we mainly concentrate on Cognac and Armagnac carrying a small but premium range.
Rum
Rum is made from Molasses, cane syrup or sugar cane juice which is distilled to a strength of under 96% abv and requires a minimum bottling strength of at least 37.5% abv. It cannot be flavoured though caramel colour can be added, as can up to 20 grams per litre of sugar for rounding out high alcohol. We have a cracking range of Rum from around the Caribbean.
We also have Spiced Rums which have more relaxed rules. These are made by macerating ingredients to flavour the Rum. We are lucky enough to have a couple of local ones on our shelves and even have one which is made on the Scottish Island of Rùm.
Tequila and Mezcal
Tequila and Mezcal are the two most popular types of Agave based Spirits. We have an excellent yet small range of quality and premium options including some Flavoured Tequilas.
