Villa Wolf Pinot Gris - a classic Burgundy from the Villa Wolf estate. Well balanced, with a beautiful bouquet and the typical minerality of the Pfalz. It was precisely here, in the Palatinate, that Pinot Gris was recognized as a grape variety in the 19th century and first vinified independently.

Villa Wolf, Pinot Gris is dry, unoaked and an elegant and finessed wine with all its complexity coming from the skill of the winemaker, the cool climate and the fantastic terroir.  The ideal pairings for Villa Wolf, Pinot Gris are white meats and fish/seafood, especially Sushi.  The cool climate freshness from this wine also work fantastically with a cheese board.

About the region and producer

In 1996, Ernst Loosen took over the J.L. Wolf winery in the Pfalz region, which has been rich in tradition since 1756. Villa Wolf is a country villa in the Italian style, unique in its design, which was completed in 1843 according to plans by the Karlsruhe architect Friedrich Eisenlohr.

For Ernst Loosen, the takeover of J.L. Wolf (now Villa Wolf) was a déjà vu experience. Just as with the Dr. Loosen Winery, the opportunity arose to breathe new life into a winery with a good stock of vines in prime locations. The location of both wineries is also special: Dr. Loosen is located in Bernkastel on the Middle Mosel, where the concentration of prime vineyard sites is highest. Villa Wolf in Wachenheim is located on the Mittelhaardt with a special microclimate (similar to that of Alsace).

Sheltered on the edge of the Mittelhaardt forest, all Burgundy grape varieties thrive particularly well in the mild climate of the Rhine Valley (along with figs, almonds and sweet chestnuts). But our vineyards also offer the best conditions for great, dry Rieslings. It was precisely here, in the Pfalz, that Pinot Gris was recognized as a grape variety in the 19th century and first vinified independently. The unique regional climate of the Middle Haardt, the mineral-rich soils of limestone, basalt and sandstone, as well as the great age of the vines are the building blocks for the terroir of our vineyards. Their importance for the production of outstanding wines was recognized a long time ago.
