Cheese and Wine Pairing of the Week - 28/3/19
With Mothering Sunday just around the corner we’re looking towards “mum friendly” pairings, and we think we’ve come a Classy Combination that any mum would love! Introducing – Epoisses and Tempranillo/Petite Verdot (Patrick’s new favourite!) Remember, all wines mentioned are for sale on our website, and will be linked. Cheese sadly doesn’t ship as easily, and is only available from our store on Annfield Row.
Viento Aliseo's blend of Tempranillo and Petit Verdot is a beautiful ruby red in colour. The nose is pronounced with aromas of blackberries and hints of violets. The palate is full and smooth with notes of blackberries, redcurrants and a touch of sweet spice. Well integrated tannins add structure to the wine which finishes long and fruity. The juiciness of this wine perfectly balances our salty, spicy cheese!
Epoisses de Bourgogne is a soft cow’s milk cheese produced by Jacques Hennart in the village Époisses, France. It is creamy, and has a firm texture. With a distinctive soft red-orange colour, it is categorised as a smear-ripened cheese washed in marc de Bourgogne. Despite its pungent smell, the cheese has a spicy, sweet and salty flavour. In fact, the smell of ripe Epoisses can be so strong that it is banned on some forms of public transport in France! This cheese is so soft and runny that you can smear it on bread or crackers or it can be baked in a similar manner to camembert.
So why not treat your mum to our Cheese and Wine Pairing of the week this Sunday – and remember you get 20% off of cheese when you purchase our pairing in store!
