Made from 100% organic Malvasia grapes, Vallformosa Malvasia de Sitges is a refreshing and crisp white wine with subtle hints of white flowers. Its delicate aromas of apple, pear, and tropical fruits make it the perfect companion for white meats and mild fish.
Originally from Greece, malvasia spread throughout the Mediterranean until it reached Sitges, where it came to occupy a quarter of the cultivated land in the 18th century.
About the Producer
In 1865, the birth of Vallformosa was marked by the cultivation of vineyards near the Masía La Sala in Vilobí del Penedès, Barcelona. By 1938, the first bottles of Vallformosa cava were crafted, establishing the company as a responsible and sustainable producer. Environmental stewardship is at the core of their operations, with all wines requiring 40% less energy and 99% of waste being recycled. Additionally, Vallformosa is dedicated to promoting organic practices and currently 20% of their grapes are organically grown, with a goal to expand this percentage year after year.
Vineyard and Winery
After a mixture of manual and mechanical harvest, in mid-September the grapes arrive at the winery for pre-fermentation skin maceration which is performed for 6 hours to extract desired textures and aromas. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperature at 16°C preserving primary fruit characteristics and freshness.
