Adega de Penalva do Castelo is a Dão winery revived by Abegoaria, the winemaking project of the Bio family. Originally from Alentejo, Ana and Manuel Bio have invested in Portugal’s wine heritage; modernising facilities, and revitalising wineries in historic wine regions. Always with the same purpose and determination – to contribute for the preservation of the best of the Portuguese identity and empowering the locals. Penalva`s wines are made using traditional grape varieties grown on the region’s rugged granitic terrain by local farmers in the district of Castendo. The protection of the Serra da Estrela and location at 500m altitude creates a generous microclimate and distinguished wines.
