Bright, shiny, straw yellow colour. Big, fine and complex on the nose, with white flowers and white-fleshed fruit, complemented by a touch of vanilla and hint of menthol. On entry, the wine remains fresh with lovely light floral and fruity aromas. With age, the wine develops a lofty character and coffee roasting undertones.

Impressive with stuffed peppers, chicken or turkey terrine, trout tartare, grilled chicken with herbs and goat’s cheese. This Macon wine is best served between 11 – 13°C.

About the Producer

Originally from the “Nievre” region in France Alain Normand settled in Macon to develop and manage a 13 hectares vineyards business. Since the company was taken over by a Alain in 1993 the vineyards have kept expanding. In 2010 his wife, Sylvaine Normand joined him as a partner and obtained additional family owned hectares of land.

The 35 hectares vineyards are now spread over several areas within the region of Macon that includes Solutre, Chaintre, Prisse, Igé and La roche Vineuse. Since the partnership in 2010 the business aimed at conquering new markets with solid know-how based on both partners experiences of the industry. The Vineyards have also integrated a strong corporate social responsibility to guarantee a low environmental impact.

Vineyard and Winery

From the La Roche Vinous district in the Maconnais these Chardonnay vineyards are planted on advantageous Southeast facing slopes of clay limestone soils.

The wine undergoes an extended fermentation on natural yeasts with work on the lees in the tanks to increase the texture and complexity of the wine.

Most enjoyable and a great discovery.

I am not sure if it is because my palate has changed as I got older, but I drink far less white wine than I used to, finding many too acidic and tasting too much of apples. Often, finding a white that I liked involved entering a price range above that which I would have for enjoyable red wine.
I am really glad to have discovered this wine. Lightly chilled, it was a great accompaniment to an exotic chicken fricassee that my wife had created and I had to be strict with myself as I was enjoying it too much.
I am sure that it will also be very welcome with many fish courses as well.
An added bonus is the very reasonable price and I shall certainly be back to replace the space it has left in my wine rack.
