Limoncello di Capri is produced by Molinari, an Italian spirits group known for its Sambuca and other Italian liqueurs. The brand was acquired by Molinari in 1999. The original recipe for Limoncello di Capri was created by Vincenza Canale in the early 20th century. She was the landlady of the famous Mariantonia Hotel on Capri and would offer her homemade Limoncello to guests. In 1988, Vincenza's descendants founded Limoncello di Capri S.r.l., the first company to patent and use the name "limoncello". The production process involves hand-harvesting the finest PGI Sorrento lemons and infusing their peels in high-quality neutral alcohol. The company maintains a "Transparent Factory" in Meta di Sorrento, where visitors can witness the entire production cycle from lemon cultivation to bottling
