Banfi Brunello di Montalcino is an intense and elegant red wine with ruby hues and garnet highlights. The complex bouquet reveals sweet bramble and blackcurrant notes, layered with fresh floral scents of rose. This full-bodied wine balances smooth, well-integrated tannins with vibrant acidity, delivering power and depth. Ideal alongside rich, flavourful dishes, it also excels as a thought provoking wine for the creative process.
About the Producer
Founded in 1978 by the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a superb marriage of winemaking passion and technological innovation. In collaboration with Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's most eminent winemakers, the land purchased in Montalcino was transformed into a crucible of quality and potential. The subsequent acquisition of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone, further enriched the portfolio. Banfi is committed to responsible environmental stewardship and has obtained the sustainable Equalitas certification, at organisational and product level, for some productions. Their Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all’Oro 2016 was the first Brunello di Montalcino to obtain this certification. This legendary producer has a pioneering spirit, and their series of quintessential wines are not only world class, but they also perfectly encapsulate their terroir.
Vineyard and Winery
The vineyards are located in the hilly area of the estate, with a low to moderate incline. The soils vary according to different types of sediments, from the clay sands of the marine Pliocene, deep soils with abundant and calcareous stones, to the gray-blue clays which are moderately deep mineral soils that tend to retain humidity. Vines are spur cordon and Banfi Albarello (Gobelet) trained with a density of 2400 – 5500 vines/ha yielding 65 q/ha.
Fermentation in temperature-controlled (25-30°C) Horizon hybrid French oak and stainless-steel tanks followed by ageing, 80% in French oak casks (90-60 hl.) and 20% in French oak barriques (350 l.) for a minimum of 2 years
