Fantini Organic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is an Italian red wine renowned for its red ruby colour with garnet highlights. This full-body, well-balanced and well-structured wine is intense but persistent nose with aromas of sweet spice and hints of chocolate and tar. This easy drinking Italian red has fruity flavour with strong aromas of wild berries and hints of vanilla that you can pair fantastically with salami, meats and rich main courses based on eggplant or mushrooms.

About the Producer

The Fantini group was founded in 1994 by Valentino Sciotti with the aim of producing top-quality wine from Abruzzo. The enterprise was so successful that the group expanded further south in Italy and its islands. Today, the Fantini group includes Cantini Diomede, Gran Sasso, Vesevo, Vigneti del Salento, Vigneti del Vulture, Tufarello, Zabù, and Cantina Atzei, among others. Acclaimed winemaker and consultant Alberto Antonini oversees production, ensuring these wines offer great quality, varietal character and value. Their elegant and striking packaging makes them stand out on the shelf or table.

Vineyard and Winery

The grapes for this Montepulciano come from small farms managed by the Fantini group, in the areas around Ortona, San Salvo and Pollutri. The vines are between 25 and 50 years. The vineyards have a south-eastern exposure and the soils are a mixture of clay and limestone and trained using a pergola training system.

Once the grapes were received at the winery, they were gently crushed and destemmed, before undergoing cold maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 15 days at temperatures of 24-26°C. Finally, the wine was matured in barriques for 12 months prior to bottling.

The 2023 vineyards saw a slight delayed harvest for the red grapes. This was to allow for perfect phenolic maturity. The resulting wines have excellent structure and tannins. The climactic conditions made 2023 a challenging vintage. However, careful vineyard management allowed for the vintage to be of higher quality than anticipated.
