Tasting Notes & Food Pairings
Pours a bright, deep garnet with a vibrant ruby edge. On the nose, it hits all the right traditional notes: ripe blackberries, dark plums, and morello cherries, followed by hints of warm vanilla pod, toasted coconut, dried tobacco leaf, and subtle cedarwood.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, remarkably approachable, and thoroughly satisfying. The fruit is generous and juicy rather than heavy, balanced by fresh, lively acidity that keeps it clean. Polished, supple tannins carry layers of spiced damson, cocoa, and cracked nutmeg through to a lingering, pleasantly dry, and mellow finish. Proper, honest Rioja.
Food Pairings:
Rioja and lamb are a match made in heaven. Pour alongside slow-roasted shoulder of Scottish lamb with garlic and rosemary, or a hearty chorizo and butterbean casserole. It also handles midweek comfort food with ease—try it with grilled pork chops, homemade beef burgers, or a wedge of mature farmhouse cheddar.
About the Producer
Bodegas y Viñedos Leza García is a family business that produces, ages and sells wines from its own vineyards. It is located in an area with a long winemaking tradition and renowned prestige called Rioja Alta, where wines renowned for their quality are produced.
The Leza García family has been dedicated to the art of viticulture for generations, with the aim of producing quality wines and thus satisfying lovers of good wines. It was at the beginning of the last century when our grandfather, Juan Leza Arenzana, began his journey in the world of wine.
Vineyard and Winery
Viticulture & Terroir:
The grapes are sourced exclusively from the family's mature Tempranillo plots situated along the Najerilla river valley at elevations between 450 and 600 metres above sea level. This pocket of Rioja Alta benefits from a blend of Mediterranean sun and Atlantic cooling breezes, creating marked day-to-night temperature swings that prolong the ripening season and lock in fresh natural acidity. Soils are a classic mix of ferrous clay, limestone, and river-washed pebbles, which restrict vine vigour and encourage concentrated, thick-skinned berries.
Winemaking & Maturation:
Following a selective harvest at optimum ripeness, the fruit was destemmed and given a temperature-controlled fermentation in small stainless-steel vats to extract deep colour and supple tannins while preserving varietal aromatics. The wine was then racked into American oak casks where it spent 14 months maturing—comfortably exceeding the statutory 12-month Crianza legal minimum. After barrelling, it rested in bottle at the winery to allow the oak, tannin, and fruit to knit seamlessly together before release.
