Lorca Lo by Mauricio Lorca is a vibrant 8.5% Criolla Blanca crafted with a clear focus on preserving the grape’s primary floral and fruity character. This light and expressive white wine opens with delicate aromas of white blossoms, blooming Muscat, crisp green apple, and fresh pome fruits, offering a fragrant tribute to modern Argentine white winemaking. On the palate, it is ethereal, juicy, and refreshingly bright, with lively acidity that enhances the aromatic profile while maintaining a graceful sense of balance and lightness. Best served well chilled, it pairs beautifully with fresh tapas, relaxed brunches, sunny lunches, and casual gatherings with friends.

About the Producer

Mauricio Lorca did well at school and college and was all set to go to medical school to train to be a doctor until, one day, a group of viticulture students came to give a talk to his year group. Mauricio went home to tell his Mum… I’m going to be a winemaker! What a shock that must have been for proud Mrs Lorca. What a stroke of luck for us.

This was many years ago when winemaking in Argentina wasn’t such a reputable career as it has become these days. Mauricio got straight down to it and worked his way up the ladder with winemaking roles at Catena, Luigi Bosca and Finca La Celia, sometimes taking risky decisions in the vineyards to prove a point to dissenting voices around him who were less open to change than he, and to fine tune a style that he has pioneered in Mendoza – top class wines without any oak ageing. Mauricio’s high-density, high-altitude vineyards are in his beloved Vista Flores in the Uco Valley; and his apparently ever-expanding winery is situated in Luján de Cuyo. It’s essentially a no-frills operation with the energy and solid work ethic of every employee channelled into getting the job done with efficiency and aplomb. There’s an honesty about the place that comes across in the wines

Vineyard and Winery

This low-ER alcohol wine is the result of a series of experimental micro-vinifications undertaken by Mauricio Lorca at our request, seeking to provide us with a delicious lower ABV white that does not cut any corners when it comes to delivering aroma, texture and length in the wine, things that we are not prepared to compromise on. This is a ‘proper’ wine: there is no de-alcoholisation, no acidification, no added sugar, and no added anything else for that matter. The fruit comes from Finca El Mirador in Rivadavia at 700 MASL, where the Mendoza sun filters through ancient pergola-trained vines over 90 years old. The vineyard’s deep sandy loam soils with excellent drainage, combined with the warm, early-ripening climate, provide ideal conditions for producing naturally balanced fruit with freshness and concentration. The fruit is picked early, just after veraison, with a focus on aromatic and phenolic ripeness, while vineyard management limits vigour and controls sun exposure to preserve firm acidity and naturally low alcohol levels. Harvesting is carried out manually in the final days of January to maximise freshness and aromatic expression.

The wine is a blend of Pedro Ximénez and Moscatel Amarillo, both native Criolla varieties, which together create a fresh, modern expression of this historic vineyard. After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures of 12–14°C using selected yeasts, with no malolactic fermentation or oak influence, preserving purity and vibrancy in the finished wine. At 8.5% ABV we have enough alcohol to make an excellent light dry white with lovely floral aromatics, delicious citrus fruit character and a proper finish. We will leave other companies to provide low alcohol ‘wines’ and we will leave it to you, as always, to decide how good this is. We are delighted to say the reaction since we introduced Lorca Lo to the UK has been overwhelmingly positive.
