Mauricio Lorca 'Opalo' Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc greets you with a pale, luminous yellow colour. The nose opens with vibrant notes of asparagus, pink grapefruit, and wild herbs and is very inviting with its aromatic character. On the palate, this blend strikes a beautiful balance: the Sémillon brings tension and elegant depth, while the Sauvignon Blanc delivers a fresh, herbal, and lively character. The finish lingers long, precise, and thoroughly refreshing.

This wine shines alongside fresh fish, seafood, and ocean-inspired cooking. It's equally at home with Asian dishes, goat cheeses, crisp salads, and lighter fare where its acidity and freshness amplify every flavour. Serve chilled at 6–8 °C to experience its full potential.

About the Producer

Mauricio Lorca did well at school and college and was all set to go to medical school to train to be a doctor until, one day, a group of viticulture students came to give a talk to his year group. Mauricio went home to tell his Mum… I’m going to be a winemaker! What a shock that must have been for proud Mrs Lorca. What a stroke of luck for us.

This was many years ago when winemaking in Argentina wasn’t such a reputable career as it has become these days. Mauricio got straight down to it and worked his way up the ladder with winemaking roles at Catena, Luigi Bosca and Finca La Celia, sometimes taking risky decisions in the vineyards to prove a point to dissenting voices around him who were less open to change than he, and to fine tune a style that he has pioneered in Mendoza – top class wines without any oak ageing. Mauricio’s high-density, high-altitude vineyards are in his beloved Vista Flores in the Uco Valley; and his apparently ever-expanding winery is situated in Luján de Cuyo. It’s essentially a no-frills operation with the energy and solid work ethic of every employee channelled into getting the job done with efficiency and aplomb. There’s an honesty about the place that comes across in the wines.

Vineyard and Winery

The grapes come from selected vineyards in the Uco Valley, a region recognized for its cool climate and mountain soils. Harvest takes place manually in late February, with careful cluster selection to preserve the natural freshness and aromatic intensity of the varieties.

Vineyard location: vista flores and tupungato, uco valley, mendoza. Altitude: between 1,000 and 1,200 meters above sea level. Soil: mountain alluvial soils with the presence of sand, gravel, and calcareous sectors that favor natural drainage and contribute tension and purity to the wine. Climate: mountain climate with marked thermal amplitude, sunny days and cool nights that allow slow ripening, preserving natural acidity and the aromatic expression of white varieties.

Each variety is vinified separately to respect its character. Fermentation takes place in concrete tanks under controlled temperatures. The wine then rests for six months on fine lees with regular bâtonnage, which adds texture, volume, and complexity, without the use of oak or barrel aging.
