Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico is an exceptional red made solely from Sangiovese grapes. It has vibrant cherry colour and a captivating Pinot Noir-like clarity that is evident both in the glass and on the nose. It has intense yet elegant fruit with a fine, grainy texture that conveys a pleasant astringency. Perfect for any occasion but especially with Tuscan influenced foods.

"Giovanni Manetti has been crafting this bottling from grapes grown in Lamole since the 2015 vintage. It's quite a departure from the vigorous Chianti Classico from his Panzano estate. The cool site reaches 600 metres and is characterised by Macigno soil – a friable sandstone which gives a delicate, fine-boned wine by comparison. The 2020 slowly reveals rose, lilac and lavender on a backdrop of ripe red currants. Beautifully textured with fine tannins; the finish long and succulent."

About the Producer
Lamole is a forgotten corner of Chianti, situated high above Panzano. A few parcels of old Sangiovese, some alberello (bushtrained) as they always were in Lamole, have survived the replanting decimation of the early 1970’s because they were so far away from the heart of Chianti. It is from these old vines, planted in the 1920’s, that Giovanni Manetti took cuttings in order to propagate his own clones and replant his vineyards at Fontodi, and it is partly from these old vines that Fontodi’s quality and intensity is derived. Giovanni long harboured the dream of making a wine from Lamole, as he regards it as one of the most distinctive zones in Chianti. It is 620 metres above sea level, so the wines from the sandy soils are scented and elegant, their perfumes developed by the cool nights and long growing season at such an altitude. He convinced a cousin to work with him on seven hectares of vineyard at a property called Filetta. Together they restored the vineyard to health, and by 2014 were ready to pick their first grapes.
Vineyard and Winery
Filetta is the name of a seven hectare vineyard in the heart of Chianti's Lamole zone. It is 620 metres above sea level West/SouthWest facing, so the wines from the sandy soils are scented and elegant, their perfumes developed by the cool nights and long growing season at such an altitude.Vines are Guyot trained but some old vines are still trained using the traditional "Alberello di Lamole" (bush vines).
After picking, the grapes were carried to the Fontodi winery and carefully selected on sorting tables. Then they were fermented and macerated in concrete vats. The resulting wine was then aged for 24 months in 25HL, 37HL and 50HL French oak casks before bottling.
