Azevedo's Vinho Verde Loureiro/Alvarinho is a classic Portuguese white wine, characterized by clear, bright hues and an explosion of fresh citrus fruit, nectarine, and lime blossom on the nose. Vibrant, full-bodied, and crisp on the palate, this wine has a lively acidity and a clean finish, making it an excellent accompaniment for seafood dishes.

About the Producer

In 1982, Fernando Guedes took ownership of the Azevedo estate, bringing with him the ambition to revolutionise the viticulture and winemaking. He planted 35 hectares of cordon-trained vineyards, in lieu of pergolas, and constructed a modern winery equipped with the most advanced technology. Being today's head winemaker, Diogo Sepúlveda's impressive range of crisp, white wines all boast signature freshness and distinct, flavourful profiles.

Vineyard and Winery

Abandoning the classical pergola training of Vinho Verde vineyards, Azevedo vintners adopted a current cordon system. This increases grape exposure and vine canopy aeration, guarding against fungal growth and culminating in riper and healthier fruit at harvest. The vineyards are cultivated in accordance with sustainable methods, with cover crops inserted between the vines to enhance soil health, capture surplus rainwater, and enhance biological diversity.

Grapes were selected and harvested at night to maintain optimal freshness at the winery. Once arrived, destemming and pressing took place under inert gas to avoid oxidation, and the must was left on the skins for an aromatic pre-fermentation maceration. The juice was clarified and a temperature-controlled fermentation occurred at 13-15°C using in-house yeast strain QA23, preserving the bright fruit notes. Afterwards, the wine rested for 4 months in stainless steel, allowing the fine lees to be stirred regularly.
