About the Producer

El Otro is our supplier's own little brand, hatched as an idea in the spring of 2021 when Ucopia Wines was taking shape. They realised they were embracing the challenge of being ‘the other’. The labels are not an attempt to please everyone because, if you stand in the middle of the road for long enough you will probably get run over. The wines themselves, however, are genuine crowd-pleasers without a hint of compromise anywhere in the making.

Vineyard and Winery

The Syrah and Garnacha grapes for this wine are from vines ranging in age between 20 and 65 years grown at an altitude of between 600 and 800 metres. The vineyards are in the Cariñena PDO to the north east of Central Spain.  The soil type is reddish-brown limestone over rocky subsoils. Essentially an old-vine Garnacha with a generous splodge of Syrah in the blend, about 15%. The wine created is remarkably bold in weight and structure given the humble price tag, and absolutely oozes clean, fresh, dark berry fruits from nose to finish, a red wine that celebrates simplicity and good honest winemaking without the hindrance of cheap oak.  All El Otro wines are certified vegan-friendly.
