"The blend for this juicy white changes from year to year. For 2021 Larry Cherubino used 65% Riesling and 15% Sauvignon Gris – the name Stone’s Throw refers to the short distance between the vineyards in the Great Southern region where the fruit is sourced. Classic Riesling notes – petrolly and lemony – plus a fresh grassiness and zesty lime. Lipsmacking acidity: bright, fresh and zesty – this is a wake-up call for your palate."

About the Producer
Former ‘Winery of the Year’ by James Halliday and Matt Skinner, Larry Cherubino wants his wines to be distinctive and to speak clearly of their variety and vineyard site. He believes in paying meticulous attention to the vineyard, canopy and water management, picking at the right time and minimal intervention in the winery. Larry also makes wine under the Laissez Faire label, an exquisite range of natural wines which are the ultimate expression of site, made in small batches from hand harvested grapes. From delicate whites to opulent reds, all his wines have pure class and finesse.
Vineyard and Winery
The vineyards are located in the Great Southern region. The area is characterised by the influence of the Southern Ocean, with cooling breezes, which originate in the Antarctic, lowering the temperature and making it an ideal growing climate for varietals that excel at lower temperatures. During mid January to February, the evening temperatures average at 19°C, which encourages a gradual ripening; concentrating flavours in the grapes while balancing natural acidity provides freshness. The average rainfall during the growing season is 310 millimetres. The vineyard is planted on granite soils and is situated with a northern orientation which optimises the long sunlight hours, promoting ripening and maturation of the grapes. The vines were planted in 1997, at a density of 1,650 vines per hectare, with Riesling and Sauvignon Gris planted a stone's throw from each other in the same vineyard.
Grapes were carefully selected from various sites across the Great Southern region. Great attention was paid to harvesting dates along with gentle destemming, minimal use of sulphur and using the free-run juice from select parcels of fruit, which ensured the elegance and purity of flavour was maintained.
