As the label may suggest this is officially the perfect wine for sushi and has been created as a joint venture between Bodegas Ontañón and Riojan chef Felix Jimenez of Kiro in Logroño.  Akemi Rioja Blanco has bounteous fresh tropical fruits married perfectly with the subtle background flavours from the oak.

Akemi Rioja Blanco is made solely from Viura grapes taken from 35-year-old vines in a single vineyard plot belonging to Bodegas Ontañón.  Post fermentation the wine is aged in largely second use American oak before bottling, more about adding a creamy smooth texture to the wine than influencing the wine overly with vanilla and woody notes.

This spectacular seafood friendly white Rioja is rounded, creamy and fleshy but still with a refreshing lively acidity, just because it is a white Rioja doesn't mean this is another vanilla bomb.  The tropical and stone fruit flavours come first followed by impressive structure with texture and robust mouthfeel.

About the Producer

A joint project between Bodegas Ontañón and Riojan chef Felix Jimenez. The wine was made specifically to match with the Japanese and fusion cuisine that has earnt Felix a Michelin star. The name Akemi means "Beautiful Dawn" and you'll find it on the menu at Kiro in Logroño where Felix makes his name.

Vineyard and Winery

Made from 100% Viura grapes organically grown and taken from 35-year-old vines in a single vineyard plot belonging to the winery. The wine is aged in mostly 2nd use American oak before bottling.
