Aromas of ripe black raspberry and plum are layered with hints of cracked black pepper, sweet spice, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, the wine is smooth and approachable, showing juicy spiced berry fruit supported by notes of toasted mocha and a gentle oak influence. The Cabernet brings structure and subtle cassis depth, while the Shiraz adds warmth and a soft peppery lift.
Soft, rounded tannins and balanced acidity make for an easy-drinking, fruit-forward style with a supple, lingering finish. Pairs well with grilled meats, barbecued ribs, hearty pasta dishes, and mature cheeses.
About the Producer
Named after its dramatic views of the Simonsberg Mountain, the estate is situated in Stellenbosch, one of South Africa’s premier wine regions, 45 km east of Cape Town. At the helm are the Malan family, descendants of the French Huguenot Jacques Malan who first arrived in the Cape in 1688, although it was the late Frans Malan who pioneered much of what the company stands for today. The Malan family are one of South Africa’s most reputable wine producers. The three Malan brothers have passionate commitment towards quality and innovation. Simonsig wines are sold in more than 40 countries world-wide, including the United Kingdom, USA and Kenya.
