Banfi 'Poggio alle Mura' Rosso di Montalcino displays a ruby red colour and offers a complex bouquet where ripe cherry and bramble notes intertwine with delicate licorice and tobacco spices. This wine’s broad, enveloping structure delivers a long, persuasive finish that enhances its fresh and fruity character. Its soft yet well-bodied profile makes it an excellent companion for red meats, game, and medium-aged cheeses. Designed for enjoyment now or with cellaring potential, it reveals refined depth as it matures.

About the Producer

Founded in 1978 by the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a superb marriage of winemaking passion and technological innovation. In collaboration with Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's most eminent winemakers, the land purchased in Montalcino was transformed into a crucible of quality and potential. The subsequent acquisition of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone, further enriched the portfolio. Banfi is committed to responsible environmental stewardship and has obtained the sustainable Equalitas certification, at organisational and product level, for some productions. Their Brunello di Montalcino Poggio all’Oro 2016 was the first Brunello di Montalcino to obtain this certification. This legendary producer has a pioneering spirit, and their series of quintessential wines are not only world class, but they also perfectly encapsulate their terroir.

Vineyard and Winery

The vineyard area is characterised by slopes with a good incline where the soils develop on reddish continental and clay sediments with significant presence of stones and pebbles. Vines are spur cordon and Banfi Albarello (Gobelet) trained with a density of 4200 – 5500 vines/ha yielding 70 to 75 q/ha. The Sangiovese is from a combination of internally selected clones, dating from 1982.

Fermentation in temperature-controlled (25-30°C) stainless-steel tanks followed by ageing in French oak casks (90-60 hl.) and in 350 l. French oak barrique (30% new) for 12 months.
