Tasting Notes
Crystal-clear in the glass. The nose is clean and delicate, offering gentle aromas of white blossom, subtle cracked black pepper, and faint lemon zest alongside a whisper of sweet almond. On the palate, it delivers a rounded, velvety mouthfeel. Soft hints of brioche and vanilla custard emerge through the mid-palate, finishing crisp, refreshing, and clean with lingering notes of cracked wheat and sweet citrus.
Serving Suggestions:
Classic Dry Vodka Martini: Stir over plenty of ice with a dash of dry vermouth and strain into a chilled glass; garnish with a fresh lemon twist or a couple of green olives.
Food Match: Brilliant alongside cured seafood — serve ice-cold with hot-smoked Scottish salmon, pickled herring, or freshly shucked native oysters with a squeeze of lemon.
About the Producer
Grey Goose was established in the late 1990s by Sidney Frank, who set out to build a luxury vodka grounded entirely in French gastronomic craft. To develop the recipe, Frank partnered with François Thibault, a cellar master trained in the demanding traditions of Cognac. While the brand later joined the Bacardi portfolio, production remains closely overseen in France by Thibault, adhering to an exacting, grain-to-glass approach that treats vodka production with the same pedigree and discipline typically reserved for fine spirits and wine.
Production & Distillation
Ingredients & Sourcing: The spirit is made using single-origin soft winter wheat grown in Picardy, northern France — an agricultural heartland renowned for high-grade bread-making grain. The water used to cut the spirit is drawn directly from an artesian spring in Gensac-la-Pallue near Cognac, filtered through natural limestone to ensure absolute purity and mineral balance.
Distillation & Blending: The wheat is milled, fermented, and continuously distilled through a specialised multi-column system designed to strip out impurities while preserving the gentle cereal sweetness and natural aromatics of the wheat. The high-proof spirit is subsequently blended with the spring water in Cognac and gently filtered to create its signature rounded mouthfeel before bottling.
