About the Producer

The Biondi Santi family has earned a place in the tradition of Italian wine thanks to the lively and passionate inventiveness that has distinguished it since the very beginning. The roots of this brilliant adventure go back to the 1800s, when Ferruccio Biondi Santi planted the first Montalcino vineyard with vines of a selected clone of Sangiovese, called Sangiovese Grosso or Brunello: it was the first step towards a new way of making wine that would soon in the history of Italian wine. Today it continues to improve under the leadership of Jacopo with the future secure thanks to help from his children, Tancredi, Clemente and Clio.

Vineyard and Winery

Hand harvested in September the liquid spent a short time on skins to extract colour before fermentation in steel tanks.  The wine is released after three months relaxing in the bottle.  It has been made to be a Premium Rosé, fresh and zesty and youthful with fruit intensity.

The vineyards of Castello di Montepò occupy 55 hectares of the estate's total of 600. Sangiovese Grosso BBS11, the exclusive property of the Biondi Santi family, occupies over 85% of the vineyards, while in the remainder two other international varieties grow and ripen, also red berried, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In the vineyard a single spurred cordon training system is adopted on plants that have an average age of about 20 years. The agronomic staff of the company, thanks to a monitoring system that makes use of a system of control units located in the vineyards, is constantly informed on the parameters that regulate the vegetative productive development of the plants.
