Castello di Montepò Sassoalloro Oro by Jacopo Biondi Santi pours a brilliant ruby red colour into your glass with garnet hints reflecting its age. Fresh aromas of black fruits and undergrowth lead to a palate that is soft, elegant, and well balanced. The wine delivers a long, enveloping, and persistent finish. Ideal with lamb, pasta in herby tomato sauces, or traditional Tuscan dishes, it offers a robust flavour that enhances meals with classic Tuscan charm.

About the Producer

The Biondi Santi family has earned a place in the tradition of Italian wine thanks to the lively and passionate inventiveness that has distinguished it since the very beginning. The roots of this brilliant adventure go back to the 1800s, when Ferruccio Biondi Santi planted the first Montalcino vineyard with vines of a selected clone of Sangiovese, called Sangiovese Grosso or Brunello: it was the first step towards a new way of making wine that would soon in the history of Italian wine. Today it continues to improve under the leadership of Jacopo with the future secure thanks to help from his children, Tancredi, Clemente and Clio.

Vineyard and Winery

The Sangiovese Grosso grapes were grown in Maremma Galestro on Single spurred cordon vines. The average ago of the vines is over 15 years.  Harvest was by hand in mid September 2019. Traditional fermentation, both alcoholic and malolactic was carried out in stainless steel vats. The Sassoalloro Or was aged in French barrels and barriques for 16 months prior to being bottled where it spent a further 6 months before release.
