J'Noon Akluj White is a unique blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, showcasing the best of both grapes. Its complex mix of flavours includes lively notes of green apple, white pear, stone fruit, lime, lemongrass, white pepper, jasmine and herbaceous fruit. Bringing together the sweetness of Chardonnay and the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc, this white wine is an excellent choice for those who want to explore the intricate flavours of international varieties grown in India.
About the Producer
J’NOON is a joint venture between Kapil Sekhri of Fratelli wines and Jean-Charles Boisset. The name is a French take on the Urdu word “Junoon”, which means “passion”. The aim of Jean-Charles and Kapil was to produce India’s finest wine, and we think they’ve achieved that.
Vineyard and Winery
J’NOON’s vineyards span 95 hectares over three sites in Akluj (Mahārāshta), on the right bank of the Nira River. The climate in this region is sub-tropical but the altitude of 650 metres allows the grapes to rest at night and retain freshness and acidity. The fruit for this wine comes from the Garwar Plot G site where the welldraining, low nutrient soils are predominantly made up of sand with a high rock content.
The grapes were processed and fermented separately in stainlesssteel tanks at 18-20°C for 10-15 days. After fermentation, the Sauvignon Blanc was kept in stainless-steel tanks while the Chardonnay was racked into 100% new French oak barrels where it spent 6 months ageing. The wine was blended and aged for a further two months in stainless-steel tanks prior to bottling.
