Tasting Notes

Pours crystal clear in the glass. On the nose, it leads with classic, piney juniper and cracked coriander seed before uncurling into a fragrant lift of bittersweet Seville orange oils and subtle earthy root spice.

The palate is clean, dry, and reassuringly traditional. Rather than leaning on sweet syrups or artificial flavouring, it lets the natural oils of the Seville orange peel work in harmony with vibrant juniper berries. Bright citrus zest comes through early, followed by a warm mid-palate of liquorice and peppery spice. The finish is long, tidy, and refreshing, leaving a lingering note of dry citrus rind and clean juniper.

About the Producer

The Keiller name sits right at the heart of Dundee's industrial folklore. In the late 18th century, a Spanish merchant vessel carrying a cargo of bitter Seville oranges sought refuge from rough seas in the Firth of Tay. Sensing an opportunity, local grocer James Keiller bought the batch at a bargain, and his mother Janet set to work boiling the citrus with sugar, giving birth to the world's first commercial chip marmalade. The white ceramic Keiller pots went on to travel the globe, cementing the city's reputation for "Jute, Jam, and Journalism".

James Keiller Estates resurrects that spirit of local trade and ingenuity. Rather than trading solely on a historical name, this gin was developed to give the city a genuine, locally distilled spirit that honours Dundee’s working-class heritage with honest craftsmanship, solid balance, and zero gimmickry.

Distillation & Botanicals

Botanical Selection:

At the heart of the recipe is a classic London Dry spine—resinous juniper berries, aromatic coriander seed, angelica, and orris root—complemented by a dedicated infusion of bitter Seville orange peel. The orange rind provides natural citrus oils and a delicate bittersweet edge without skewing the gin sweet or syrupy.

Distillation & Craft:

Distilled in small batches using traditional copper pot distillation. The distillers make tight heart cuts to capture the bright, volatile citrus oils and pine notes while keeping the mouthfeel rounded and clean at 40% ABV. The spirit is cut with pure water and bottled locally, creating an authentic regional gin built for everyday drinking.
