Pours a bright straw yellow with subtle green and gold highlights in the glass. On the nose, it opens with generous aromas of crisp conference pear, white peach, and honeydew melon, accompanied by delicate floral notes of chamomile and a lick of sweet vanilla and toasted brioche from well-judged barrel work.

On the palate, it has a lovely, rounded creaminess from regular lees stirring in barrel, yet never feels heavy on its feet. The ripe stone fruit flavours and gentle oak spice are sliced through by a lively, mouthwatering citrus acidity that keeps the palate fresh, clean, and structured. It signs off with a persistent, savoury finish carrying a hint of toasted hazelnut and wet-stone minerality.

Food Pairings:

This has the body and texture for proper, honest dining. It pairs brilliantly with pan-fried hake or cod in brown butter, roast chicken served with herb-roasted tatties, or a traditional seafood paella. For pasta nights, try it with a creamy garlic prawn linguine, or simply pour a glass alongside a wedge of nutty, semi-cured Manchego.

About the Producer

Bodegas y Viñedos Leza García is an independent, family-run bodega situated in Uruñuela, right in the heart of Rioja Alta’s cooler Najerilla Valley. Wine runs deep in the family: the story began in the early decades of the twentieth century when grandfather Juan Leza Arenzana first set to work tending vines and making wine, passing hands-on viticultural know-how down through generations.

Unlike many commercial operations that buy in anonymous fruit, the Leza García family farm and bottle exclusively from their own family vineyards. They manage every stage of the vine cycle—from winter pruning right through to hand-sorting at harvest—marrying long-standing Rioja tradition with clean, modern cellar discipline to make wines that consistently punch above their price tag.

Vineyard & Winery

Viticulture & Terroir:

The fruit is sourced from the family's high-elevation plots on the Valpierre plateau in the Alto Najerilla sub-zone, sitting around 700 metres above sea level. This high altitude is crucial: it brings significant diurnal temperature variation, where warm daytime sunshine ripens the fruit while sharp night-time drops preserve crisp natural acidity and delicate aromatics. The northwest-facing vines grow in deep, iron-rich clay and limestone soils (arcillo-ferroso), naturally curbing vigour and yielding small, concentrated berries of Tempranillo Blanco—a rare, naturally occurring white mutation of Rioja's classic red grape that was first discovered in the region in 1988.

Winemaking & Maturation:

The grapes were picked during the cool early hours to protect their fresh aromatics and prevent premature oxidation. Following gentle pressing, the must underwent fermentation in a combination of selected French and American oak barriques. In keeping with Crianza requirements, the wine matured for six months in wood on its fine lees, undergoing periodic bâttonage (lees stirring) to build mouthfeel, silky texture, and mid-palate weight. After racking off the lees, the wine completed its barrel ageing before resting in bottle in the estate cellars to let the oak spice, orchard fruit, and mineral freshness marry seamlessly. Bottled vegan-friendly.
