Lothian of Elgin Vineyards Biosphere Pinot Noir opens with delicate elegance, revealing vibrant cherry and wild strawberry notes alongside subtle hints of pine bark and wood spice. The palate is soft and fruit-driven, with lively acidity, creamy raspberry undertones, and finely textured tannins that build gracefully. A clean, chalky finish showcases the refined character of this South African expression, delivering a refreshing and sophisticated wine that captures the cool-climate essence of the Elgin Valley. Try pairing this wine with duck, charcuterie, or mushroom dishes, its towards the lighter end of medium bodied so will also work nicely with grilled salmon or tuna.

About the Producer

Situated in the Kogelberg Biosphere in the Elgin Valley, often compared to Scotland due to its, cool, misty climate. Run by the Wilson family (Gavin and Ewen), who have three generations of Cape winemaking history. Emphasizes non-interventionist, artisanal techniques to create elegant, complex, and sustainable wines.

Vineyard and Winery

Lothian Estate, situated in the mountainous realm of the cool Elgin Valley, was previously a flowering protea farm that had been maintained more for its bountiful fishing and unspoilt beauty, than for the proteas. Today, the estate is run by Gavin and Ewen Wilson, who hail from three generations of Cape winemakers, having grown up on their grandmother's Rust-en-Vrede vineyard in the 1950's and 60's. It is not difficult to see why the family decided to make this place their home, as with its thick morning mist, rolling greenery and waterways framed by towering peaks, one might mistake Elgin for Scotland, where they are originally from. With its sights now firmly set on crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with finesse and elegance that reflects the unique landscape of the region, Lothian works closely with renowned winemaker and Master of Wine Richard Kershaw to produce these impressive single vineyard wines.
