Pours a bright, translucent ruby red. The nose is immediate and expressive, leading with wild strawberry, morello cherry, and fresh raspberry, followed by dried rosemary, crushed allspice, and a gentle waft of tomato leaf that signals authentic Macedonian terroir.
On the palate, it strikes a terrific balance. Xinomavro brings its signature mouth-watering freshness and poise, while the local Negoska grape softens the edges, offering supple texture and rounded red fruit. The tannins are fine and savoury rather than astringent, making for an effortless, lingering finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
This is a benchmark food wine built for proper home cooking. Its bright acidity and savoury herb profile cut cleanly through rich dishes like roast shoulder of lamb studded with garlic and rosemary, slow-cooked beef or venison stew with pearl onions and root vegetables, or grilled pork chops or sausages straight off the coals.
About the Producer
Mikro Ktima Titos—literally the "Small Estate of Titos"—was established in 1972 by Titos Eftychidis, a passionate advocate for the historic winemaking region of Goumenissa in Northern Greece. Titos lovingly planted a boutique four-hectare vineyard along the Sirios River, devoted primarily to the indigenous grape varieties that define the local appellation.
Following his passing, his widow Angeliki sought out trusted family friend and pioneer of modern Greek winemaking, Vangelis Gerovassiliou, to safeguard Titos's vision. In 2018, Gerovassiliou and his longtime winemaking partner Vassilis Tsaktsarlis (of Ktima Biblia Chora fame) took on full stewardship of the estate. While they brought state-of-the-art vinification and cellar facilities, they kept the core ethos intact: small-scale, artisan craftsmanship celebrating the distinctive, unhurried character of Goumenissa.
Vineyard & Winery
Viticulture
The estate's vineyards sit in the rolling foothills of Mount Paiko in Central Macedonia, sheltered along the verdant banks of the River Sirios. The continental climate is softened by cool mountain downdrafts and river breezes, which protect the vines from midday heat and encourage slow, even ripening. The soils are a mix of sandy loam and gravel, offering natural drainage that forces the vines to dig deep for nutrients, yielding fruit with natural balance and mineral clarity.
Viniculture
Grapes are hand-harvested late in September at peak physiological maturity. In traditional Goumenissa fashion, the late-ripening Xinomavro and the softer Negoska are co-macerated and co-fermented together, an approach that harmonises Xinomavro's firm structure with Negoska's rich fruit right from the start. Fermentation takes place with temperature control and gentle cap management to draw out aromatics without extracting harsh tannins. Following malolactic conversion, the wine matures for 12 months in large French oak barrels, adding subtle polish and spice while allowing the energetic fruit character to take centre stage.
