Rutherford Hill Merlot is deep in colour and intensity. It has developed ruby hints as it is now four years old as well as oak aged. The nose is densly packed with aromas of dark cherry, plum, figs and a hint of nutmeg spice. On the palate the weight is described as medium-bodied and there is a great deal of concentrated flavour. It is a well-defined wine with more dark fruit on the taste featuring dark plum, pomegranate, dried cherries and a beautiful long mocha finish. The Merlot has been blended with a small percentage of classic Bordeaux varietals to produce a high quality, refined, luxury Napa Valley wine. Though it is fast and loose to describe Syrah as a classic Bordeaux varietal it did get added to Bordeaux wines in the 18th and 19th centuries.
