Soumah of the Yarra Valley Nebbiolo is a light crimson coloured wine boasting typical aromatic notes of violets, roses, tobacco, and tar. It has a balanced palate of red berry flavours and tannins, creating a lingering finish. Enjoy with a slow cooked beef stew or a simple cheese platter especially with creamy cheeses.

About the Producer

Soumah of the Yarra Valley is a producer of fine wines from the region. A hidden gem located down a country lane, in the dress circle of the cool Warramate foothills of Gruyere. Soumah set out to make wine with the charm of northern Italy but the provenance of the Yarra Valley. Situated an average of 120 metres above sea level, the vineyard is elevated above the valley floor. The ancient sandy-clay loams with broken sandstone shape the small yield and define the detail in these precise, focussed expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Vineyard and Winery

After some research, Soumah planted numerous Nebbiolo clones on a north-west slope to give the fruit every opportunity to ripen slowly in the golden autumn sun. Grapes were gently picked the fruit and fermented the juice in tank. After fermentation, the wine was left on skins for 120-days to soften the tannins, then aged the wine in seasoned puncheons (500L barrels) for 24 months.
