This Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos Chateau Pajzos is a luxurious dessert wine with a deep golden hue and a fragrant bouquet of ripe peaches, acacia honey, orange peel, sweet spices and candied lemon. On the palate, it is luscious and opulent with a silky mouthfeel and layers of meringue, lime, dried apricots and figs. Enjoy by the glass with fresh fruit and desserts or pair with Asian cuisine and blue cheeses - it has aging potential up to 50 years!

"Joyful and upbeat, this has a sense of fun and liveliness from the start. A brightness to the fruit and acidity which lifts the sweetness off the palate. A directness and linearity too, it's straight and detailed, all in one line, meaning it's not cloying or heavy but vibrant. A fun, sweet style, light almost in its playfulness with bright citrus and stone fruits, lemon, grapefruit, nectarine, orange and peach alongside marzipan, salty almonds and honeycomb nuances. Stunning purity. If you want this style, or are looking for a great-value and quality entry into Tokaj this is excellent. 157 g/L of residual sugar. First time on the Place de Bordeaux for three Hungarian wines from this estate which is owned and managed by Jean-Louis and Ronan Laborde of Château Clinet in Pomerol."

About the Producer

Chateau Pajzos is one of the great producers in Tokaj, Hungary. The estate was classified as a `First Growth` in 1772 and its sweet wines have been enjoyed by Monarchs and Emperors for centuries, Louis XV of France famously called Tokaji `Wine of Kings, King of Wines`. In 1991, the Pajzos estate was bought by Jean-Louis Laborde who also owns the esteemed Chateau Clinet in Pomerol, Bordeaux.

About the Region

The Tokaji wine region is in the north east of Hungary, towards the borders of Slovakia and Ukraine. The region is centred around the confluence of the Tisza and Bodrog rivers, with the vineyards planted on the south and southwest slopes above. The rising mists from the rivers in autumn encourage the onset of `noble rot` in the grapes, producing one of the great and most distinct sweet wines of the world.
