Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions
Pours a bright, natural straw-gold in the glass. The nose opens clean and uplifting, showing aromas of crisp orchard fruits, soft yellow peach, and tinned apricots, layered over creamy vanilla custard, lemon shortbread, and a faint hint of fresh honeysuckle.
On the palate, it delivers a smooth, rounded texture that never feels heavy. Generous flavours of vanilla fudge, poached pear, and peaches and cream arrive first, followed by sweet malt, roasted almonds, and light notes of toasted coconut. As it settles, gentle peppery oak and warming clove bring a crisp, balancing dryness. The finish is clean, nutty, and satisfyingly warm, leaving lingering traces of candied citrus peel, sweet oak spice, and cocoa.
Serving Suggestions:
Enjoy it neat in a proper tulip glass to let the orchard fruit aromas lift, or add just a couple drops of cool water to bring out more of the creamy vanilla and stone-fruit sweetness. At the table, it makes a lovely partner to traditional Scottish tablet, a slice of Dundee fruit cake, or a plate of hot-smoked salmon on buttery oatcakes.
About the Distillery
Sitting proudly by the side of the A95 on the edge of Cromdale and Advie, Tormore is one of Speyside's most distinctive sights. Commissioned in 1958 and designed by Sir Albert Richardson—esteemed architect and past President of the Royal Academy—the distillery was built out of local granite, complete with copper roofs, an ornate clock tower that chimes every quarter hour, and a dedicated workers' village.
For decades, Tormore's bright, ester-rich spirit was quietly funnelled into some of Scotland’s biggest blended whiskies, rarely seen on independent shelves as a single malt in its own right. Following its acquisition by Elixir Distillers, the estate has embarked on an exciting new era. The focus has turned entirely towards celebrating Tormore’s classic character: honest, fruity, well-made Speyside whisky that delivers serious quality in the glass without any unnecessary pomp.
Production & Maturation
Stillhouse & Craft:
The distillery draws pure, soft processing water from local hill springs flowing toward the River Spey. Long wash fermentations encourage a naturally ester-heavy, fruit-forward wash. Distillation takes place in large copper pot stills fitted with purifiers that increase copper contact and reflux, stripping out heavier compounds and ensuring that only the purest, lightest floral and orchard-fruit notes make their way into the spirit run.
Cask Maturation:
For this 12-year-old release, the whisky matures in a balanced selection of first-fill and refill ex-bourbon casks, complemented by rich cream sherry butts and toasted virgin American white oak. This recipe preserves the distillery’s signature fresh peach and apple character while weaving in layers of mellow vanilla cream, gentle drying spice, and toasted wood tannins. Bottled at 46% ABV with no chill filtration and zero artificial colour added.
