Tasting Notes & Serving Suggestions

Nose: Opens cleanly with warm spiced brioche and fresh bakery pastry, followed by dried sultanas, soft medjool dates, and orchard apples. A gentle background touch of lemon zest and demerara sugar keeps the sherry influence light on its feet.

Palate: Good, tactile mouthfeel without being syrupy. Ripe bramble jam and stewed plums sit alongside buttery tablet, toasted hazelnuts, and a dusting of cinnamon. The distillery's naturally bright, fruity spirit cut holds its own against the wood rather than being drowned out.

Finish: Medium to long, drying neatly with lingering notes of dark cocoa, dried citrus peel, and gentle cracked-pepper oak warmth.

Serving Suggestions & Food Pairings:

Best enjoyed neat or with a scant splash of cool water to tease out the orchard fruit and malty pastry notes. If you are sitting down with food, it pairs handsomely alongside a wedge of sharp mature cheddar, venison carpaccio, or a dark chocolate and hazelnut tart.

About the Distillery

Sitting proudly by the side of the A95 on the edge of Cromdale and Advie, Tormore is one of Speyside's most distinctive sights. Commissioned in 1958 and designed by Sir Albert Richardson—esteemed architect and past President of the Royal Academy—the distillery was built out of local granite, complete with copper roofs, an ornate clock tower that chimes every quarter hour, and a dedicated workers' village.

For decades, Tormore's bright, ester-rich spirit was quietly funnelled into some of Scotland’s biggest blended whiskies, rarely seen on independent shelves as a single malt in its own right. Following its acquisition by Elixir Distillers, the estate has embarked on an exciting new era. The focus has turned entirely towards celebrating Tormore’s classic character: honest, fruity, well-made Speyside whisky that delivers serious quality in the glass without any unnecessary pomp.

Production & Maturation

Distillation & Spirit Character:

Tormore draws water from the Achvochkie Burn. The washbacks and four pairs of large copper pot stills are fitted with purifier pipes on the lyne arms. This extra reflux encourages copper contact and separates out heavier oils, resulting in a notably clean, fragrant, and fruit-forward spirit packed with crisp apple, pear, and melon notes.

Maturation:

Aged for a full sixteen years in a combination of refill American oak and European oak sherry casks. The wood interaction is measured and patient: rather than smothering the whisky in sweet European oak tannins, the casks round out the spirit, adding warm baking spice, stewed fruit, and fudge whilst preserving the delicate distillery character. Bottled at 46.8% ABV without chill filtration or artificial colouring.
