Uncharted Whisky Co.'s Higher Ground, a Braeval 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a classic sherry bomb with a bright and fruity nose. Its rich palate offers flavours of sticky dates, cinnamon pastry, and melted vanilla ice cream. The finish is gentle, with lingering notes of butterscotch, oak, and spices. A truly satisfying whisky experience.
Braeval Distillery sits atop Speyside and indeed the Scotch Whisky world. It is the highest distillery in Scotland (pipping Dalwhinnie by a mere 2 metres)- hence the name given to this vatting of these 2 sisters barriques. In the tiny village of Chapeltown, near Ballindalloch the distillery was built in 1973 and originally named ‘Braes of Glenlivet’. This was a great name (in our humble opinion) given it’s location on the braes of Speyside however, due to the ensuing confusion with Glenlivet distillery, it was renamed in 1994 to Braeval.
The malt springs from some very tall and slender pot stills which make for a light and delicate spirit which is why the spirit has been used consistently (and with good reason) in production of global blend brands such as Chivas Regal. The same light character has paired beautifully with the Oloroso sherry barriques maturation.
Jack and Dana at Uncharted Whisky Co. love working with whiskies that often end up in blends because if you want to try them in their best guise- small batches of spirit in great wood- you have to come to the indie whisky world where Uncharted and their peers thrive.
As always…. Un-filtered. Natural colour.
About the Producer
The Uncharted Whisky Company is an independent whisky bottler operated exclusively by Jack Breslin and Dana de Vos. They work in the gorgeous village of Fintry, Scotland where they harbour a passion for creating exceptional whisky.
They select casks of whisky that they love. Sometimes bottling them straight away and sometimes maturing them further. Sometimes they do something a little more radical and finish the maturation in a completely different cask.
Each whisky has a name which comes from the world of music. Even their blend is called Mixtape. It is fun and creative and as interesting to collect as the vinyl.
Their goal is quite simply to create!
