Tasting Notes & Food Pairings
Pours a clean, bright ruby-red with garnet edges. On the nose, it has generous red cherry, wild raspberry, and damson, quickly followed by the classic charm of sweet vanilla, toasted coconut, cedar shavings, and cocoa dust. The palate is silky, supple, and balanced. Juicy red fruit is carried along by refreshing food-friendly acidity and polished tannins. Mellow layers of clove, dried herbs, and gentle oak spice linger on a clean, rounded, savoury finish. Textbook Rioja Crianza.
Food Pairings:
It is an effortless match for Sunday roast leg of lamb studded with garlic and rosemary, pan-fried pork chops with braised red cabbage, or a hearty chorizo and butterbean stew. If you are keeping it closer to home, pour a glass alongside quality venison sausages and mash, or serve it with a wedge of mature Manchego and oatcakes.
Valdepalacios Rioja Crianza is also currently available by the glass in The Wine Press, Dundee's finest Wine Bar.

Vineyard & Winery
Viticulture & Terroir:
Fruit for the Valdepalacios Crianza comes from estate-grown vineyards situated between 500 and 700 metres above sea level across Rioja Alta. These higher altitudes benefit from a pronounced Atlantic influence, ensuring warm daytime sunshine is tempered by cool night breezes coming down from the Sierra de la Demanda. The vines are rooted in stony, clay-limestone and iron-rich soils that restrict vigour naturally, yielding berries with bright natural acidity, fresh aromatic definition, and balanced physiological ripeness.
Winemaking & Maturation:
Grapes were harvested by hand during the first week of October. Following destemming, fermentation took place over 14 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats at 28°C, with daily pump-overs to extract colour and soft tannins without astringency. The wine was then matured for 12 months in 225-litre oak barriques—predominantly American wood (70%) for its rounded vanilla and sweet spice character, complemented by French oak (30%) for backbone and cedar complexity. Racked regularly throughout its cask rest, the wine underwent a further minimum of six months ageing in bottle prior to release.
