Stift Klosterneuburg, Grüner Veltliner Eiswein is a beautifully made wine exhibiting layers of full flavour and intense notes of which highlight the quality of the unique terroir from which it comes.  A strong deep yellow colour gives a first impression of the luscious and glorious wine to follow and hits immediately with its intensely fruity bouquet.  There is a charming creamy texture on the palate which speaks of the structure and process from grape to glass.  The finish is as you would expect and exceptionally long.

Grüner Veltliner is the most important grape variety in Austria, accounting for around two thirds of the overall area under vine.  The grapes for this Eiswein come from Stift Klosterneuburg's vineyards in the Lower Austria region.  They are provided here with perfect ripening conditions for this specific variety.  Optimum sunlight and soil conditions allow for the ideal fruit that remains hanging on the vine into the winter season until it is cold enough to pick.

Stift Klosterneuburg, Grüner Veltliner Eiswein or Icewine is rather special and has excellent ageing potential.  Pair it with desserts, goose liver pâté, or cheese platters.

Stift Klosterneuburg, Grüner Veltliner Eiswein is also currently available by the glass in The Wine Press, Dundee's finest Wine Bar.

Vineyard and Winery

The Grüner Veltliner grapes for this wine were grown on weathered sandstone soil with a top layer of loess in the Lower Austria region. Lower Austria has the best geological and climatic conditions for this grape variety. The 2018 vintage of this ice wine was harvested on January 22, 2019 with 33 KMW*. For an ice wine, the grapes must have at least 25 KMW, be harvested at at least -7 degrees and come into the wine press in a frozen state. As a result, the water in the grapes remains frozen and only the concentrated must flows out. The wine was fermented and aged in stainless steel which allows for the purity of fruit to remain.

*Klosterneuburg Must Weight Scale. The weight of the must measured as being 1 gram of sugar per 100 grams of grape must.
